New Location for Biur Chametz – Pimlico Race Course

by Greg on April 7, 2009

For the past many years, Baltimore’s Jewish community has gathered on Erev Pesach at the fire station on Glen Ave. to burn chametz.  This year, however, Biur Chametz is in a new location.  The new location, at Pimlico Race Course, is the ONLY location that chametz should be burned this year.

PIMLICO RACE COURSE

ENTER PARKING LOT FROM

PREAKNESS WAY

Between NORTHERN PARKWAY and WEST BELVEDERE AVE.

Wednesday, April 8, 2009

between 6:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

Please place the chometz to be burned in paper or a paper bag.

Please be considerate by burning chometz, not plastic.

When plastic bags, plastic wrapping or styrofoam are incinerated, carcinogens (cancer

causing chemicals) are released into the air. Fire Department personnel have advised

us that these gases are harmful to everyone at the chometz burning.

No closed cans or bottles will be accepted

to avoid the hazard of explosion.

Please do not abuse this service by bringing large amounts of chometz or trash to be

burned. As a convenience, dumpsters will be provided for larger amounts of chometz.

Recycling is encouraged – designated dumpsters available on site.

NO BULK TRASH (non-food related) will be permitted.

After your chometz is burned, Kol Chamira is recited.

(In Baltimore, chometz may be eaten until 10:24 a.m. Wednesday, morning.)

YESHIVAT RAMBAM parking lot was not available as originally printed in the STAR-K Passover Directory

What was wrong with the fire station? April 13, 2009 at 2:22 pm

This was a disaster. The traffic and parking couldn’t have been handled worse. Is it going to be addressed next year? Let me know now so I can make preparations for my own barbeque. I’m not going back if it promises to be the same.

Why was not it not in the usual place?

I fully agree with commenter #1 — I think there were actually people who did not burn chometz on time. I think they should have it in the dunkin donuts parking lot..then we can kill 2 birds with 1 stone

We waited on Northern Parkway for an hour so my kids and I had to walk to the chometz burning. Finally my husband decided to go to Belevedre and found a city garbage bin to get rid of our garbage bags (three big ones). The fence with several gates are locked…it would be easier to gain entrance and exit from belevedre area. I will not go there again next year. All i saw i lost an hour and half which i could have prepared for Seder. I’d go back to Glen Ave. It seems that having more space at Pimlico cause the community to come at very last minute and turned it is not working out.
